Being autistic means I process things in my own way. I sometimes struggle with small parts of conversations that other people don’t notice. But it doesn’t mean I can’t do things, sometimes I just need a little more time. I have sensory sensitivities especially with noise and I have special interests that I can hyper fixate on, it really makes a difference to me when people give me more time to think about things. A positive change I have noticed since getting my autism diagnosis is getting the support I need, especially at school. My strengths are in the area of ICT, I am really good at PowerPoint and other IT systems as well as maths and languages. I struggle with more subjective subjects like English and RE because I have to work out what the author is trying to tell us. I think it’s important for people to know that being autistic does make a lot of things harder, but it doesn’t mean we need help with everything - it just means we experience the world differently.
