Now firmly established as a highlight of World Autism Month in Northern Ireland, the Autism NI Colour Run continues to grow year on year, bringing the autism community together in a celebration of acceptance and understanding.
The event began with an energetic dance warm-up led by Fitness Freddy, while the U105 crew kept the atmosphere buzzing as participants made their way around a 3K route through the scenic grounds of Stormont Estate. Along the way, runners were doused in bright bursts of paint, many covered head-to-toe in vibrant hues.
The Colour Run was officially started by Adam Keefe, Patron of Autism NI and Head Coach of the Belfast Giants, who praised both the turnout and the importance of celebrating World Autism Month:
“It was fantastic to see so many children and families turning out in support of such a worthy cause,” he said. “Autism NI has always had a strong vision of building an inclusive and accepting society, and as their Patron I know how important this work is. Events like this show the strength of our autism community and the difference we can all make together.”
Kerry Boyd, CEO of Autism NI, highlighted the significance of the event:
“The energy today was absolutely electric. Seeing so many people come together to support autism while having a lot of fun, is what this event is all about. Events like this are so important in raising awareness of autism within the wider community, but they also create a fun, inclusive environment where autistic people and families can come together to celebrate too. Fundraising monies raised from this year’s Colour Run will support Autism NI’s ongoing work in delivering vital services, training, and advocacy for autistic individuals and their families. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took part and supported us today.”
