On Sunday 12th April Northern Ireland’s autism charity, Autism NI, welcomed hundreds of local autism families to celebrate World Autism Month at W5 in Belfast.
The event saw families come together to celebrate and show their support for our autistic community.
The Charity has organised several activities with local businesses, schools, families and the wider public throughout World Autism Month which runs throughout April.
Autism NI CEO, Kerry Boyd said, “This World Autism Month, our message is ‘Be Kind To Different Minds’. Understanding and supporting autistic people, whether in schools, workplaces, or our communities, is something we can all do. Our Family Fun Day at W5 shows just how wonderful it is when families come together in a safe space where children can be themselves. Seeing hundreds of families join us today was a powerful reminder of the joy and connection that inclusion brings. I would like to thank our amazing staff and volunteers that made this possible.”
Local parent, Peter Burrows, comments “This is a wonderful opportunity for families to come together and feel included in the community. Days like today are so important as it gives our children the chance to meet others, have fun, and learn in a supportive environment. Autism NI has been a huge help to us, and we really value their resources and support, as well as simply having someone to talk to who will listen.”
With over 35,000 autistic people in Northern Ireland, the local charity is encouraging everyone to get involved and show their support for our vibrant autistic community.
