EVREN’S STORY

Evren is a 13-year-old autistic young person from Belfast.

“I received my autism diagnosis when I was 6 years old, along with my ADHD diagnosis. My strengths are remembering facts and my amazing hearing, my Mum says I've ears like a bat, and I am also good with computers. I would need support in school from my classroom assistant to help me break down instructions and help me organise my day. I would also need help at home, as it really helps me to have my day structured, and I would need warning if there are going to be changes to my routine.

Autism acceptance to me means I can be myself. That I don't need to hide the things that make me, me.  I would ask that people don't stereotype us, we all have our own strengths and weaknesses. This World Autism Acceptance Month I am supporting Autism NI’s important message to “Be Kind to Different Minds” as it would mean I would be accepted, understood, and included for my ‘different mind’.”

Autism NI provides vital services for autistic people and their families throughout Northern Ireland, and campaigns for autism understanding and acceptance within society.
