Join our 'Making Sense of Autism' campaign!
Autism NI Patron, Stephen Clements is calling on local businesses, schools and communities across Northern Ireland to support World Autism Awareness Month this April, and get behind the charity’s new campaign - ‘Making Sense of Autism’. Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how people communicate, how they interact with others and how they ‘make sense’ of the world’.
Stephen says, “Our new ‘Making Sense of Autism’ campaign aims to raise awareness about Autism in the classroom, in the work place and in the local community. Join us today and help raise vital funds and awareness for the Charity across Northern Ireland”.
“One in forty school children in Northern Ireland is diagnosed with Autism and we rely on your help to improve the lives of children and adults affected by this hidden disability. With a 67% increase of school aged children with Autism over the past 5 years, Autism NI is calling for mandatory Autism training for all teachers and classroom assistants”.
“In the workplace, just 16% of autistic adults are in full time employment. Through the ‘Making Sense of Autism’ campaign, Autism NI is calling for all businesses across Northern Ireland to take positive steps to become more accessible for individuals with Autism – both as valued employees and customers.”
“Autism NI supports individuals and their families affected by Autism to become integrated and valued members of the community, and to kickstart the campaign the Charity will be hosting a series of ‘Making Sense of Autism’ family events to help local communities across Northern Ireland understand Autism.”
Stephen says “Join us on Saturday 14th April at venues including Belfast City Hall, Seven Towers Leisure Centre, Ballymena, Lakeland Forum, Enniskillen and Guildhall Derry/Londonderry and on Saturday 21st April at Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn from 1pm – 4pm for a ‘Making Sense of Autism’ Family Fun Day. To register simply call 028 9040 1729 today.
Alongside this event there, will be fun awareness activities that your school, workplace, friends and family can get involved in including our ‘School’s Sensory Challenge’, ‘Corporate Colours Day’ and a ‘Walk a 5K a Day’ all taking place during World Autism Awareness Month.
